Quilts are definitely an expression of art and skill. Often made by hand and sometimes collaboratively with friends &/or family. Quilts can be made up of a variety of materials such as repurposed cloth or denim from worn-out clothing or from new fabric. Quilting continues to be largely a home-based form of artistic expression. Quilts can tell stories, preserve history through unique design & skill, be a cherished heirloom passed from one generation to the next and of course, keep us warm and comfortable.
The quilts of the 607 Guest House, some new & some vintage, have been sourced from a variety of locations: traveling to tag sales, answering sale advertisements, rummage sales, auctions and yes, even passing from one generation to the next. Miles have been driven to find the right quilts for the 607 Guest House.
There are multiple quilts that match or coordinate to the theme of each bedroom. This is so the quilts can be properly cleaned and cared for in-between bookings. Some quilts through their age and use, have acquired, as I will call it, “Scars of their history.” Despite my best efforts to restore them to their once new glory, they may carry with them a blemish, stain or patch, but it does not diminish their purpose and I am happy to have saved them to continue their life at the 607 Guest House for more people to enjoy.
