No matter how organized we think we are, there’s always that moment during unpacking when we realize—"Uh oh, something’s missing." At the 607 Guest House (and vacation rentals everywhere), we’ve seen our fair share of left-behind items, from the expected to the... let’s just say, unexpected.
Here are the Top 6 most forgotten items guests tend to leave behind when staying at a vacation rental—plus a few tips to help you remember them next time you travel!
1. Bathroom Items
We’re talking razors, toothbrushes, contact lens cases, and that pricey shampoo you swear by. These essentials are often tucked into corners of showers or bathroom drawers and forgotten in the post-checkout scramble.
Pro tip: Once you're finished getting ready, gather all items into one spot—either in the bathroom or next to your toiletry bag for easier locating. And don’t skip a final sweep of the bathroom before locking up. Those small items love to hide!
2. Chargers (Especially Phone Chargers)
Chargers are the lifeline of modern travel. Unfortunately, they’re also the first to get left behind—plugged in behind nightstands or buried in outlets you swore you’d remember.
Pro tip: At the 607 Guest House, we provide charging stations and accessible power strips to help you keep track. Still, it’s a good idea to pack a backup charger in your travel bag, leave a sticky note on your suitcase as a reminder, or unplug everything the night before checkout.
3. Glasses & Sunglasses
Reading glasses left on nightstands or sunglasses perched on the edge of a table often get forgotten in the rush.
Pro tip: Keep a designated case in your bag or purse, and always double-check nightstands and countertops before heading out.
4. Clothing
From a hoodie draped over a chair to socks that somehow vanish under the bed, stray clothing is a frequent find after checkout.
Pro tip: Do a full-room sweep and check all drawers and closets—even ones you didn’t use. Clothes have a sneaky way of disappearing, especially if the space feels like home and you instinctively put things away.
5. Jewelry
Tiny, valuable, and easily missed—rings, earrings, and necklaces often get left behind on bathroom counters or nightstands. Even items we wear regularly, like watches, sometimes get set aside and forgotten.
Pro tip: Designate a small travel pouch for jewelry and pack it before doing your final room check.
6. Balloon Animals
Yes- seriously. Whether it’s a souvenir from a cute downtown shop or a memento from a local event, balloon animals have now made their appearance on our “left behind” list. The unusal left behind items—do make for fun stories!
Pro tip: Often items that we didn't orginally pack are not often on our minds, find a designated area by the door to remind you not to forget your new found treasure!

Travel is full of memories—and hopefully not too many missing items. A quick “final lap” around the house before checkout can save you the hassle (and heartache) of leaving something behind.
At the 607 Guest House, we do our best to reunite guests with lost items when we can—but we’d love for your most memorable moments to be your adventures, not the hunt for your sunglasses!
Safe Travels,
