4. Kate Shelley High Bridge

 a.k.a. Boone Viaduct In 1901, THE Chicago & North Western (C&NW) Boone Viaduct was the longest, highest double-track rail bridge in the world. Everyone called it the Kate Shelley High Bridge, after Kate Shelley, a teenager, that risked her life to warn a passenger train that the bridge was out on a stormy July 6, 1881 night. The Union Pacific Kate Shelley Bridge Completed in 2009, was built alongside the old Boone Viaduct, a.k.a. the Kate Shelley (High) Bridge. This one was formally christened the Kate Shelley.

The High Trestle Trail Bridge is a 1/2-mile, 13-story high bridge across the Des Moines River valley, one of the largest trail bridges in the world. The bridge includes six overlooks with 41 steel "frames" over the bridge represent support cribs within a historic coal mine. After dark, the bridge comes alive that blue lights that illuminate a section of the steel cribbings.

 

8. History -Boone County Historical Center & Mamie Doud Eisenhower Birthplace
